Countdown - 30 Days Until Halloween & Vine

Yes, the countdown has begun. A mere 30 days separates us from the 2009 Halloween & Vine Show. If you are a Halloween folk art fan and live anywhere within driving distance of Petaluma, California, this is a MUST SEE event.

25 Top notch artists from around the country gather for a few hours in the quaint, historic Hermann Sons Hall to offer their original Halloween art for sale.
At this moment, We, the participating artists, are squirreled away in our studios preparing our offerings for the show. We are delaying returning emails and phone calls, putting off chores and plans, disappearing from Facebook and Twitter pages, becoming sporadic in our blog posts, etc. so that we can bring you our most creative works of the year.
If you are planning to or are interested in attending, you can find all the information on the Halloween & Vine website.
See you there!

Imagine Finding a Very Old...

Imagine finding an old miniature toy steamer chest that's been around for nearly a hundred years. It's well worn, but beautiful in its own way. You wonder who the child was that played with it so long ago, and what their life turned out to be.
After unlatching and opening the chest, you almost laugh out loud at the old and comical Halloween figure staring back at you with a surprised expression on its face. What a find! You'll display it in a special place and admire it every year, sometimes wishing it would tell some of the stories it silently keeps.

WIP - Halloween Nut Cup on a Glittered Cake Stand

I so enjoyed the colors and textures of the bird's nest supplies, that I've kept them within easy reach for future use. Here's a decorated nut cup atop a glittered miniature cake-stand I'm working on presently...not sure what magic treasure will fill it, but I promise You'll know when I know(wink).

Building a Nest and the Female Spirit

I'm very nearly finished building my nest. It seemed to take so much longer than it should have. Meanwhile, I've been thinking about all that a nest symbolizes: home, security, family, raising and rearing young ones. And all in such a perfectly functional arrangement(a nest). It is no wonder we find them adorning so many women's homes today, as they truly embody the female spirit.

Building a Nest and Creative Confidence

The creative block seems to be releasing it's frozen fists from around my throat. I feel as though I can breath again. So on to the next project, building a nest.

I've gathered some lovelies from my stash: vintage velvet pansies that I've hand-dyed, some autumn berries created from paper mache with a dash of glass glitter, velvet leaves, black hand-cut tissue paper strands, a molded paper mache container and a hand-dyed vintage spun cotton bird.

Aren't they delicious to look at?? A fun little project like this is sometimes just what the doctor orders to help restore creative confidence after a block.

Creative Block & A Green Pear Man

Starting yesterday, I've been experiencing a rare creative block. I'm starting to feel the pressure of the upcoming H&V show. This may be the culprit, nothing like a deadline to freeze your creative juices. So I'm making a special effort to start today on the right foot. I straightened and organized my work area, had a decent meal, and now just trying to relax a bit.

I have a little green pear man who is waiting for more details. Okay...deep breath in through the nose, out through the mouth. Just chill Baby, you can do it!
